Stuff On Top

Nov 24 2002 - 11 p.m.

So, um, it's all over now but the crying.  the crying may come when i read what i wrote through the first 21 days of November. well that's probably not true, so far i think that i am pretty satisfied and i don't think it would be possible for me to hate it on the re-read.  but hey i am a relatively open individual and am ready to sacrifice anything for my art.

It's a book.
ok, it's not a book.

it's a novel.
i am a novelist.

whoa.  weird.

it ended up being 70125 words long. It finished friday night.
which is just fine my me.  it is still a little bit shorter than your average paperback book but not so much, i don't think that you'd notice that it was particularly short.

i am happy with it, i think, overall. although i am quite aware that it will need a bunch of work before it could ever be published.  but the thing is i feel quite committed to doing that work.

so much so, in fact that although that i have already broken the schedule.
after finishing i had a plan for two definite edit steps. the first is a basic read through to find and fix readability errors, grammar, spelling, missing words and things like that.
the next step would be a quality edit. rewrites and etc.

well, after i finished friday night i gave myself the weekend off, i would start the first edit on monday.  the second edit i am not allowed to start until it has sat for a month without my reading it.  so along comes today, about 10 o'clock this morning and all of a sudden i find myself at a complete loss for something to do.  sure, i could clean but let's be serious here.
next thing i find myself editing.  go figure. it's going a little slowly though. a bit nervous about that, but what can you do.

did i mention that i am an author?  i have written a novel.
don't think i am getting a swelled head or anything, it really doesn't mean anything because i am not a published author but i do consider it a pretty cool personal achievement.

before you all ask if you can read the book, only a couple of people are reading it before the second edit and you are very much likely not one of them. nothing personal, it just isn't ready and you aren't going to see it before it's ready.  of course it might do my ego pretty good if you asked me a bunch of times, tried to convince me because you are so interested in reading it.  you know how it is.

this weekend has been a very nice one, yesterday i went shopping and spent far too much money on a jacket. however, i ask you this, how have i managed to spend 5 years in this city without owning a waterproof jacket?  i guess i have just been moist a lot. i rarely use umbrellas either.  but i am happy that i have it now.

i also went on the culture crawl. which is a pretty cool event where 50 or so artists open up their studios and let you wander through and look at stuff.  you know, under the impression that you might buy some of their work for christmas.  well, i rarely buy much, but it was fun.

i also saw Frida.  it was very good. i enjoyed it greatly. i still don't like her paintings much though.

ooo, and most importantly i found a pet store that carries the stuff that isaac likes and while it isn't horribly convenient, it is far better than what my prior choices had been.

today, other than doing some editing i saw harry potter II, which was better than the first one and i quite enjoyed it and half past dead, which stank, but it was expected.
ooooo, and i found the most wondrous new burger joint. mmmmm were they ever good.
very happy about this.
