Stuff On Top

Feb 12, 2002 -  9 p.m.

That was my Friday night.  My Saturday was an entirely different ball of wax.  After some very weird sleep patterns, as you saw yesterday i woke up at 8 o'clock in the morning and started wasting time.  Not a real waste, i guess, i was semi-constructive but at noon i left the house and headed down town.
I then proceeded to go to Monster's Ball.  Monster's Ball was just phenomenal.  I sat there completely enamoured and drained.  It took so much out of me that doesn't even parse in my head properly.  There may have been, may have been, a tear in the corner of my mind. Perhaps.  Halle Berry deserves every bit of the oscar if they give it to her.
I walked out of Monster's Ball and across the road to Burger King where i had a very program friendly burger in 6 minutes.  Then i walked into a different theatre and watched The Count of Monte Cristo.  I had been waiting to see this film as well.  I must say that i have always really enjoyed the book.  The movie didn't even disappoint either.  I found the first half of the movie to be really well done and enjoyable.  I found the second half to be, well, missing a little something but still well enough done to not lose what i had gained in the first half.
So remember how i was complaining yesterday about not seeing enough movies alone?  Well this was enough to make that go away.  It was glorious. I have no idea why seeing movies alone recharges me so much but you know, it just does.

After this i did something i have never done before.  After dark, i got on a bus i had never been on before, that went through unarguably the worst part of vancouver to an area of town that i never ever go to, to bowl.  Yes, that's what i said.  Work was having this big FunBowl event.  There were approx 70 of us and we took up the entire alley.  And you know what, it was a lot of fun.
It was arranged such that 6 people would bowl in one lane.  There were three games, the first a normal game with everyone bowling their best (and i did ok).  The second game was rather different.  You had to bowl wacky wild koolaid style.  you had to bowl wrong handed, holding hands with the person in the next lane, backwards, forwards.  At one point you had to bowl with a long balloon between your legs and after that had to pass it to the next in line without touching them or the balloon.  (during this game i was the worst male bowler in the alley. i won a prize for this).  Then there was bowling bingo.
You know...it was fun.  A lot more fun than it had any right to be.  Who can complain about that?

I haven't really written anything in a month and a half.  Can you make me write?

The oscar nominations are out.  I am not upset about any of them.  This is very odd.  I am usually upset about some.  However, i pretty much think everyone nominated was good enough to be nominated.  I don't think anyone was robbed when they were left out.  And i am surprised and happy that Ethan Hawke got an out of nowhere nomination.   And that Amelie got 5 nominations.  have i mentioned lately how much i love that film?

This week is Valentines' day. I can't bring myself to care either happy or bitter.  Should i?  I have only ever had a girlfriend once on this holiday.  She was in Calgary that day.  How should i have positive or negative thoughts about it?

This weekend i am going to the Island (yeah, you'd know where that was if you were local).  I am flying in and a wonderful woman that i do not see nearly often enough is going to meet me at the airport.  It should be a fun filled and wonderful weekend.

That would appear to be all i have to say for now.
