Stuff On Top

So last night i went and saw the Vagina Monologues.  It was packed the brim with vagina's.  There was maybe, 20% males.  And talk about sold out.  A week before the show i went down to inquire about tickets.  We looked at 5 performances, there was only one of them that had two seats at all, let alone two seats together.  They even opened up the back wall for standing room.  Not bad.
And what a positive energy crowd it was.  Everyone was happy to be there (well there were a few people with glares and frowns but i just sort of put them down to either some sort of irrational hatred of events that have the audacity to let crowds of people attend them, or to who the line up for the bathroom is far to long for normal comfort).

The show itself was rather incredible.  If laughter was a commodity then it had enough to command the attention of any bank.  The audience howled with laughter throughout a large portion of the performance.  Clapping at all times, laughing without pause.  It was very grand.  The power i felt growing in that room was rather incredible and totally empowering.  It was a thing to treasure and love as i felt it build.
And those ladies.  Talk about incredible at their jobs. The biggest thrill was Jann Arden.  I know, and have been told that she is a very funny lady, that her comedic senses and time are very well set.  I guess i believed it, but she was the funniest one up there.  She did the best voices, the best...well, she seemed to inhabit the characters that she was doing a monologue for.  And talk about feeling at home with a rage filled biker mouth.  She was a joy and a thrill to watch.
This should not preclude the other two performers either.   RIGHT!!! I am so fucking annoyed right now.  I just spent 2/3 of an hour trying to find the names of the two other women.  I didn't keep my program and their names have completely vacated my head.  They were really quite good and i wanted to mention their names here because they completely deserved it.  I wish i could remember.   Sigh.  They were both good, quite good but the one on the right, the african american woman, did the best moaning monologue i could imagine hearing.  They played to each other and had a great dynamic between the three of them.

For those of you that are local and interested, it seems that it is coming back in September.

So tonight was the Oscars.  I threw my first annual Oscar and Catty-fest.  It was a lot of fun.  We all made an appetizer.  We all had to wear one item of clothing that we would wear to the Oscars if we were going to go (i wore a pair of cufflinks, and a t-shirt).  And then there was also the game.   You got points for correct winner picks but also got points for an assortment of rules that centred around catty things.  Such as dissing the worst dressed woman or man, or spotting flaws in their costumes.
It was a lot of fun.  There were prizes for spur of the moment witticisms and remarks as well as a big prize for the winner at the end of the evening.  It didn't even seem to bother us that much that Gladiator won oscars.  it was just fun. it was all fun.  I think that it will be an annual event for sure.
Only one problem, my apt is small.  There were 7 of us here and that is about the limit for watching an event like this.  This meant that some people that would have been a lot of fun couldn't come.  That bites.  I am sure they understand though.  I hope.

   Bedtime now though.
